Regardless of the size of the organization, or even the type of election they are hoping to plan, there are certain steps\u00a0that must be followed.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><br \/>\n<section  class='av_textblock_section av-ltymfqmc-a7e66dfd12d3c3a0f73a2f3629a0358f '   itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/CreativeWork\" ><div class='avia_textblock'  itemprop=\"text\" ><h2>The Electoral Process at a Glance<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>The board should determine who is planning the election. Some professional organizations assign entire Nomination and Election Committees to plan the process. Others may simply assign the task to a single board member, or even an employee of the association. The election committee is responsible for ensuring that elections are legally valid and as stress-free for the association and members as possible.<\/li>\n<li>The <a href=\"\/professional-associations\/board-elections\/electoral-roll\">electoral roll<\/a> should now be created. The roll is perhaps the single most important election document, and should feature all eligible voters and nominees. Ideally, contact information should be included in the roll &#8211; this helps with both verifying their identity and eligibility to vote and enables <a href=\"\/election-material\/postal-documents\">postal\u00a0voting documents<\/a>, <a href=\"\/election-glossary\/polling-card\">polling cards<\/a> or <a href=\"\/online-voting\/how-it-works\">online voting credentials<\/a> to be sent.<\/li>\n<li>Nominations should be opened at least one month before the election. A form should be placed on the association\u2019s website or sent to prospective candidates via post. A Nomination Committee or equivalent thereof should review the nomination forms as they come in.<\/li>\n<li>Once there is a definitive list of nominees, <a href=\"\/professional-associations\/ballot-papers\">ballot\u00a0papers<\/a> need to be created. If conducting elections via post, <a href=\"\/election-material\/postal-documents\">postal ballot documents<\/a> should now be printed off and sent to eligible voters.<\/li>\n<li>The election commences. Voters can now cast their vote during the election period.<\/li>\n<li>The election ends at a set time period.
